Historic passing siding at "Top of the Mountain" |
Description: |
The locomotive is on an historic passing track that the original WW&F built at a place named Top of the Mountain. The WW&F used this passing track to double southbound trains on the hill, which was the ruling southbound grade (3.5%). New mainline track is currently being laid on that hill (the left track in this photo). There's a big washout where the track currently ends, but the WW&F plans to bring in work extra trains to haul in fill to span that washout as they extend the mainline toward it's short-term goal of the former grade crossing in Alna on Maine Route 218. |
