Album Info:I did a road trip with my wife to visit our youngest daughter in Austin, TX. In researching potential routings, I determined that a chase of the Texas State Railroad on its westbound leg from Rusk to Palestine would be regarded by at least one of us as a road trip enhancement. Motive power on the day we visited was TSR 30; a 1917 Baldwin-built Mikado . While at the Texas State Railroad this locomotive has carried the road numbers of 400 and 7 previous to its current designation as TSR 30. Built originally for the Tremont and Gulf Railroad (Louisiana) road number 30 was it’s original designation. The T&G sold it to the Magma Arizona Railroad in 1954 where it soldiered on into the 1960’s in revenue freight operation as MA #7. It was sold to the Texas State Railroad in 1978 and it has gone through several operating cycles, most recently being returned to service in 2015. It trails a good-looking Vanderbilt tender with 6500 gal Water capacity and 2400 gal Oil capacity. Boiler pressure is set at 185 psi. 54” drivers, Walschaert valve gear, and superheaters.
