MWCR M3 approaching the summit station in thick fog
The locomotive is moving over advance steel work for a new transfer switch being installed at the summit to allow a second track at the summit station. With just one track, trains can get pinned in and blocked from descending until the trains downhill of them have departed. The good news is that this will allow the Cog Railway to schedule a second steam train each day in future seasons. The first train of the day will be steam powered, then another departure around 3:00 in the afternoon will be steam powered.
